LA PLATA, Md. (Sept. 7, 2010) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office released the following incident reports.
SHERIFFS OFFICE, FIRE DEPARTMENT, WARN OF FUNDRAISING SCAM: The Sheriffs Office and the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department are warning the public of a possible fundraising scam being conducted by people posing as members of the fire department attempting to collect money on the departments behalf. The imposters are apparently conducting a door-to-door fundraising campaign, according to the information received by the fire department from a concerned citizen who had been made aware of the campaign. However, the fire department solicits donations by mail not in person. There is no information indicating how much money if any the scammers have collected. Anyone who believes they may have been donated money to the fraudulent campaign should call the Charles County Sheriffs Office at 301-932-2222. UPDATE ON DIRT BIKE CRASH: On September 2, Nicholas Alan Sinsel, 17, of La Plata, died as a result of injuries he sustained in a dirt bike crash that occurred on Sunday, August 29 at 3:30 p.m. in the 6000 block of Hannon Drive in La Plata. A preliminary investigation revealed Sinsel was riding the bike near his home when he struck a car which was parked in a neighbor's yard. Sinsel, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike and lost consciousness. He was flown to a hospital where he later died. Cpl. Lee is investigating.
