LA PLATA, Md. (August 26, 2010) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.
OFFICERS APPREHEND THEFT SUSPECTS: On August 25 at 3:23 p.m., officers responded to the AT&T building and tower site at 10125 Popes Creek Road in Faulkner for the report of a theft in progress. According to a witness, two men were stealing copper from a phone tower. Officers arrived and apprehended the suspects. Officers charged John Michael Hemming, Jr., 29, of Waldorf, with theft over $1,000 and destruction of property. The second suspect was not charged. The investigation is on-going. Officer J. Long made the arrest.
REWARD OFFERED FOR INFORMATION IN MULTIPLE VANDALISMS: Charles County Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward for information about multiple vandalisms of cars in the Lancaster and Oakwood areas of Waldorf. The vandalisms occurred between August 23 at 10 p.m. August 24 at 1:30 a.m. Officers responded to the area and located a witness who said they saw three young males slashing tires on several cars but did not report it immediately. The witness did tell officers the suspects fled in an older model, burgundy SUV with a damaged front bumper and a gray or primer colored drivers side door. Anyone with information about this vehicle or suspects to call police immediately. For more information, please call (301) 932-2222. SOBRIETY CHECK POINT: On August 22, between 10 p.m. - 12 a.m., officers conducted a DUI check point on Route 210 in Indian Head. 833 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. A total of 43 citations, 18 warnings and 13 equipment repair orders were issued. Two suspects were arrested for DUI and three suspects were charged with CDS possession.
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: On August 22 at 12 p.m., a male approached an 11-year-old girl in the 5700 block of Raccoon Run Court in Waldorf. He told the girl his name was "Kevin" and asked for a hug. The man then left in an older model, white Chrysler or Dodge Charger. The man is described as a black male in his 30's with short hair. Officers canvassed the area and will continue to monitor. There have not been any similar reports. Anyone with information is asked to call (301) 932-2222.
OFFICER APPREHENDS SHOPLIFTERS: On August 22 at 1:47 p.m., two women stole merchandise from a grocery store in the 3200 block of Old Washington Road in Waldorf. An officer spotted the suspects and apprehended them outside the store. Angela Nanette Conner, 38, and Valencia Allen, 18, both of Waldorf, were arrested and charged with theft. The stolen items were returned. Officer P. Savoy made the arrest.
OFFICERS APPREHEND THEFT SUSPECT AS HE FLED FROM STORE/SUSPECT ALSO HAD THREE OPEN WARRANTS: On August 20 at 6 p.m., officers responded to Sears at Mall Circle Drive for the report of a theft in progress. Witnesses reported the suspect, Alphonzo Oligidae Cutler, 23, of Waldorf, removed a pair of tennis shoes from a box and put them on his feet. Then, he concealed a box of tennis shoes under his clothes and fled from the store. Officers located the suspect and, after a lengthy foot chase, subdued him. Officers recovered the stolen goods. A computer check revealed Cutler had three open warrants. He was charged with theft less than $1000 and obstructing and hindering a police investigation. Officer F. Davis made the arrest.
OFFICERS APPREHEND SUSPECT IN FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT/HANDGUN RECOVERED: On August 21 at 2:08 a.m., officers responded to the Pure restaurant and club at 2427 Crain Highway for the report of an assault. A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect, Billy Jerome Proctor, 27, of Bryans Road, was involved in an alteration. A security officer asked Proctor to leave at which point Proctor displayed a handgun and threatened the employee. Proctor got in a car and attempted to flee but sheriff's officers stopped him. A handgun was recovered and Proctor was arrested. He was charged with first-degree assault. Officer M. Wagner made the arrest.
OFFICERS RECOVER DRUGS ON DISORDERLY PERSON: On August 20 at 12:35 a.m., officers responded to a citizen's complaint of disorderly subjects near the 2000 block of Nike Drive in Waldorf. Upon arrival, one subject fled. Officers made contact with the other subject, Raymond Harry Warren, Jr., 27, of Waldorf, and noticed several small bags of marijuana on the truck of the car where he was standing. Officers also found a bag containing suspected marijuana and cocaine on Warren. He was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute. The investigation is on-going. Officer R. PEDESTRIAN HIT BY CAR/NON-LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES: On August 19 at 2:19 p.m. a 17-year-old girl was crossing the street near St. Charles Parkway and St. Marks Drive when she stepped into the path of a sedan. The girl was transported to a nearby hospital where she was admitted with non life-threatening injuries. The driver was not charged. Officer W. Saunders is investigating.
