LA PLATA, Md. (Auguest 25, 2010) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office released the following incident report.
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: On August 24 at 7:30 a.m., an unidentified man driving a Mercury Grand Marquis with a red flashing light initiated a traffic stop on Metropolitan Church Road in Bryans Road. He approached the driver and said he pulled him over for speeding. During the stop, the suspect told the driver to exit the car. The driver complied because he saw a gun in the suspect's waistband which led him to believe the man was a police officer. The suspect searched the victim and asked if he had any drugs in the car. The suspect then began searching the interior of the vehicle at which point the victim asked for the man's identification. The suspect stopped searching the car and told the victim he could leave. The victim responded to the La Plata District Station at about 10:15 a.m. and reported the incident. Officers canvassed the area and are continuing to obtain additional information.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 40's. He is about 6'1", 190 pounds, and has gray and black hair. At the time of the stop, he was wearing a tan suit and had a gun holstered in his waistband. He was driving an older model, tan or beige Mercury Grand Marquis with tinted windows.
There have not been any similar incidents reported to the Sheriff's Office. Anyone with information is asked to call (301) 932-2222. The investigation is on-going.
