Personnel Changes in St. Mary's Public Schools


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Aug. 4, 2010)—The St. Mary's County Board of Education at its meeting of July 28, made several administrative appointments as detailed below. The appointments became effective immediately.

The Board appointed Ms. Christina Gates Gray to the position of programmer/analyst in the Department of Information Technology Services. Ms. Gates Gray most recently served as a substitute teacher for the school system. Her experience also includes serving as a strategic project manager at Civista Medical Center, as an applications system analyst and computer operator/analyst at St. Mary's Hospital, and as an application specialist/analyst at Super Fresh Food Markets. Ms. Gates Gray earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer and information science from the University of Maryland University College, and an Associates of Applied Science degree in mainframe computers from Charles County Community College.

The Board appointed Ms. Sandra Oliver to the position of assistant principal at Park Hall Elementary. Ms. Oliver returns to the school system from Prince William County Public Schools (VA) where she most recently served as an art educator. Her experience includes serving as an assistant principal at Lettie Marshall Dent Elementary School, and as an art educator in the Newport News Public School System (VA), Pennsauken Public School System (NJ), and at the Renaissance Advantage Charter School (PA). Ms. Oliver holds a Master of Science degree in education administration from Gwynedd-Mercy College (PA), a Master of Science degree in the science of instruction from Drexel University (PA), and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in studio art/art education from Moore College of Art (PA).

Ms. Amina Fola-Rose was named assistant principal at Dynard Elementary School. She most recently served as a mathematics teacher with Charles County Public Schools. In addition to teaching mathematics in various school systems, her experience also includes serving as a leadership program resident principal with Prince George's County Public Schools, an administrative intern with Chesterfield County Public Schools (VA), and a consultant with Palm Beach Public Schools (FL). Ms. Fola-Rose holds a Master of Science degree in education, management and administration of educational programs from Nova Southeastern University (FL), a Master of Divinity degree from Virginia Union University (VA), a Master of Business Administration degree from Binghamton University (NY), and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Florida A&M University (FL).

In addition, the following school system employees have been appointed to the position of assistant principal:

-- Mr. Jason Hayes, an 11-month assistant principal at Leonardtown High School, has been named a 12-month assistant principal at the same location.

-- Ms. Rebecca Cline, a science teacher at Fairlead Academy, has been named an assistant principal at Leonardtown High School.

-- Mr. Chris Carden, a career and technology education teacher at Great Mills High School, has been named an assistant principal at the same location.

-- Mr. James Copsey, III, a physical education teacher at Leonardtown High School, has been named an assistant principal at Margaret Brent Middle School.

-- Mr. Scott Szczerbiak, a compliance instructional resource teacher in the Department of Special Education, has been named an assistant principal at Spring Ridge Middle School.

-- Julia Wolfe, a music teacher at Park Hall Elementary School, has been named an assistant principal at Hollywood Elementary School.
