LA PLATA, Md. (July 1, 2010)—Household hazardous waste collection will be held in Charles County on Saturday, July 3, and will continue on the first Saturday of each month through December at the sanitary landfill on Billingsley Road East between Piney Church Road and Route 5. Collection hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Future collection dates are: August 7, September 4, October 2, November 6, and December 4.
Items accepted free of charge include pesticides, herbicides, fertilizer, gasoline, motor oil, antifreeze, paint, cleaning supplies, pool chemicals, batteries, expired prescription drugs, fluorescent lights, and other poisons that are around your house. Please keep the materials in their original containers whenever possible, and bring them to the collection site in cardboard boxes to ease unloading. Car batteries, antifreeze, propane and oil can also be disposed of at any time at the Charles County Sanitary Landfill.
