The following students were selected as members of the student liaison committee:
-- William Pike, alternate student board member and Maurice J. McDonough High School liaison;
-- Gavin Norris, North Point High School liaison; and
-- Kayla Marshall, Westlake High School liaison.
Student liaisons for Henry E. Lackey, La Plata and Stone will be selected at a later date.
Each high school is required to have a student liaison and may be selected by methods approved by the schools Student Government Association and principal. Each liaison can apply as a candidate for the position of Student Board Member. Each candidate submits an essay regarding a student concern and a detailed possible solution.
The essays are evaluated and candidates are interviewed by a selected committee comprised of students and advisors. The liaison with the highest combined score on the essay and the interview is named the Student Board Member.
Bakare was sworn in as the new Student Board Member at the June 1 Board of Education meeting by Board Chairman Roberta S. Wise.
