LEONARDTOWN, Md. (June 15, 2010) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.
TRESPASSING, POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED DANGEROUS SUBSTANCE: On June 13, deputies responded to the Checkers restaurant on Great Mills Road in Lexington Park for a trespassing complaint. Investigation revealed Brian Marcus McCathern, 29 of Lexington Park, and Joseph Kenny Morgan, 47 of no fixed address, were at Checkers consuming alcoholic beverages on the property and harassing customers. The management asked McCathern and Morgan to leave the property several times, but both refused to leave. McCathern and Morgan were arrested for trespassing. Search incident to the arrest revealed McCathern was in possession of glass smoking device containing suspected crack cocaine and an open container of an alcoholic beverage. McCathern was charged with trespassing, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, cocaine, possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia and violation of alcoholic beverage law. Morgan was charged with trespassing.
THEFT SCHEME: On June 12, DFC Labrack received a theft complaint from the manager of Rick's Jewelry in California. Investigation revealed between the dates of June 7 and June 11 Francesca Marie Daniele, 43 of Leonardtown, made three purchases from Rick's Jewelry. Daniele paid for her purchases with three checks written from a Commerce Bank account. The checks did not clear because the bank account had been closed. Further investigation revealed between May 29 and June 6 Daniele also made purchases from Blair's Jewelers located in California . Daniele paid for her purchases with checks from Commerce Bank and Federal Credit Union Vantria. The checks did not clear the bank because both accounts had been closed. Daniele also made a purchase on June 4 at G & H Jewelers and paid for the purchase with a check from Commerce Bank which was returned because the account was closed. The combined loss value from all three stores was nearly eight thousand dollars. Francesca Daniele was at Rick's Jewelers when Dfc. Labrack arrived on the scene of the theft call. Daniele was arrested and charged with theft scheme, six counts of theft less then $1,000, two counts of theft over $1,000 and eight counts of uttering bad checks.
SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On June 15, DFC Cathcart responded to Shannon Court in Mechanicsville for a report of a domestic assault in progress. Investigation revealed Marilyn Ann Martone, 24 of Mechanicsville, was in a dispute with the victim over relationship issues. The verbal dispute escalated into a physical assault when Martone scratched the victim on the neck and chest. Martone was arrested and charged with second degree assault.
SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On June 14, Deputy Flelage responded to St. Andrews Church Road in California for a report of a domestic assault. Investigation revealed Charles Timothy Moore, 28 of California, was engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim over a cell phone. The verbal dispute escalated into a physical assault when Moore grabbed the cell phone from the victim which caused a small laceration to the victim's hand. Moore was arrested and charged with second degree assault.
SEX OFFENDER ARREST: On June 14, members of the St. Mary's Bureau of Criminal Investigations Sex Offender Unit found during routine checks of sex offenders living in St. Mary's County that Clinton Wayne Rankin, Jr., age 27, had moved from his listed address. The investigation revealed he had not been living at his home of record for approximately two weeks and had failed to notify the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office of his change in address. Detectives located Rankin in Lexington Park. Further investigation revealed Defendant Rankin had violated the terms of a peace order by making contact with a seventeen-year-old victim. Clinton Wayne Rankin, Jr. was taken to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was seen by a district court commissioner. He is currently being held on a $3,000 bond.
