SOUTHERN MARYLAND (May 26, 2010) – Local county governments announced the following schedule changes in observance of the Memorial Day holiday this coming weekend.
CALVERT COUNTY
The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners announced that county offices will be closed on Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day. County offices will reopen Tuesday, June 1, for regular hours.
The Appeal Landfill and all customer convenience centers will be closed Monday, May 31. All sites will reopen Tuesday, June 1, for regular business hours.
The county senior centers will be closed on Memorial Day and Meals on Wheels will not be distributing home-delivered meals. Calvert Libraries will also be closed on Monday, May 31.
Public transportation service will run on the regular schedule for Saturday, May 29. There will be no service on Monday, May 31, and service will resume on Tuesday, June 1.

CHARLES COUNTY
The offices of Charles County Government, the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville, the Charles County Sanitary Landfill and Composting Facility off Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah will be closed on Monday, May 31, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.
Also, as part of the Charles County Government cost savings plan, the administrative offices of Charles County Government and the Tri-County Animal Shelter will be closed on Friday, May 28. Emergency operations and essential services will remain in force.
The holiday will affect the curbside weekly yard waste and every-other-week recycling collection services. Service will be suspended on Memorial Day, and resume the following day. Those who receive Monday “A” Week every-other-week curbside recycling and Monday yard waste collection services will have their recyclables picked up on Tuesday, June 1. Those who receive Tuesday “A” Week every-other-week curbside recycling and Tuesday yard waste collection services will have their recyclables picked up on Wednesday, June 2. Thursday and Friday “A” week will not be affected.

ST. MARY'S COUNTY
County Government offices will be closed on Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, June 1.
The St. Andrews Landfill and six (6) Convenience Centers will be closed and the St. Mary's Transit System (STS) will not be operating on Monday, May 31.
The three St. Mary's County libraries will also be closed on Monday, May 31 and reopen on Tuesday, June 1, and all Senior Activity Centers will be closed and there will be no Meals on Wheels delivery.
The St. Mary's County Health Department and the Board of Elections will be closed Friday, May 28 to comply with a State Furlough date. They will reopen on Tuesday, June 1 at 8:00 a.m.
