Cobb Island Octogenarian Perishes in Two Vehicle Accident


LA PLATA, Md. (May 9, 2010)—Sarah Ann Swann, 85 of Cobb Island, Charles County, passed away as a result of injuries received in a two vehicle accident on US Route 301 at Route 234 near Glasva Thursday around 11:28 a.m. Ms. Swann was a passenger in a 2000 Lincoln Town Car driven by Joann Rector Chapman, 58 of Cobb Island. Ms. Swann was pronounced deceased at the scene by Dr. Tagouri.

Police determined that the Lincoln Town Car was traveling southbound on US Route 301 and attempted to turn left onto Route 234. A 2009 International tractor-truck, driven by James Everett Johnson, 57 of Virginia Beach, Va., was traveling northbound US Route 301 and struck the Lincoln in the intersection.

Ms. Chapman was transported by Med Star helicopter to Prince George's Hospital Trauma Center.

Mr. Johnson received non-life-threatening injuries and was not transported to a medical facility.

The accident was investigated by the Maryland State Police, La Plata Barrack.
