School Bus Rear Ends Teen Driver in Leonardtown


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (May 5, 2010)—A 17-year-old student from Leonardtown High School was sent to St. Mary's County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries on Monday morning after being rear-ended by a school bus in the Leonardtown vicinity. There were no reported injuries from the driver or the 24 students aboard the school bus. The accident happened at approximately 7:42 a.m.

Police determined the youth was operating a Silver 2005 Toyota Corolla and attempting to merge into southbound traffic on Point Lookout Road from Newtowne Neck Road (MD Route 243). St. Mary's County School bus #504 was traveling directly behind the Corolla. The Corolla came to a stop in the merge lane as it was attempting to merge into southbound Point Lookout Road. The driver of the school bus failed to control its speed and struck the rear of the Corolla.

Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack investigated the accident.
