LEONARDTOWN, Md. (May 5, 2010)—A Hollywood woman was killed in a two vehicle accident Tuesday at approximately 6:24 p.m. in Hollywood. Joan Mattingly Dean, 75, died after her vehicle was struck by an oncoming commuter bus.
Police say Ms. Dean was turning right off of Mervell Dean Road onto northbound Three Notch Road (MD Route 235) in a 2008 Chevrolet Impala and failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming northbound 2004 MCI Fleet Bus, driven by Angela Denise Adams, 41 of Laurel. The bus subsequently collided with the Impala.
Ms. Dean was transported to St. Mary Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The unnamed passenger in Ms. Dean's vehicle was also transported to St. Mary Hospital for her injuries.
Ms. Adams was transported to St. Mary's Hospital. The bus was only occupied by the driver at the time of the collision.
Police say that at this time, there is no indication speed, alcohol, or drugs were contributing factors in the collision.
The accident is being investigated by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Team.
