LA PLATA, Md. (May 4, 2010)—On Tuesday, April 27, the Charles County Commissioners voted unanimously to endorse the Transportation Development Plan (TDP) that will serve as a guide for transit system development for Charles County over the next five years. The TDP provides a vision for the future public transportation system, in addition to identifying transit goals and objectives; the current status of transit services; unmet transit needs; and recommendations for short-term service improvements.
The TDP is the result of a yearlong process that is required by law for eligibility for state and federal funding. The planning process was a collaborative effort involving members of the business community, education community, special interest groups, and County government staff. KHF Group, Inc. was principal consultant in the TDP development process.
Although the primary focus of the TDP is local transit, the plan also addresses options for transportation linking Charles County travelers with the regional area.
The TDP process was guided by a TDP Advisory Committee comprised of community members and agencies affected by public transit services. The Committee provided input on project goals, transportation needs, and outreach strategies. The Committee also assisted with collecting appropriate data and information from previous studies or plans.
VanGO provided 600,333 passenger trips during Fiscal Year 2009. VanGOs fleet consists of 36 vehicles.
