LEONARDTOWN, Md. (April 29, 2010) - The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest report.
SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On Friday, April 23 at 6:04 p.m., Tpr. E. Mersman responded to the 21000 block of Bristol Avenue in Lexington Park for a reported fight in progress. Upon arrival, Tpr. Mersman made contact with the female complaint, 29, of Lexington Park, who advised she and her husband were assaulted by a male suspect. While conducting the investigation, a witness identified the male suspect and observed what he believed to be a firearm in the suspect's waistband. The suspect attempted to flee the area on foot. The suspect, Francis DeSales Bell, Jr., 44, of Mechanicsville, was taken into custody. During the foot pursuit, Mr. Bell threw what was later identified as a BB gun under a bush in the area. The gun was recovered with the assistance of a K-9 unit. An NCIC check revealed Mr. Bell had an outstanding warrant through the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Bell was placed under arrest and charged with 2nd degree assault, MDOP, wearing/carrying a dangerous weapon concealed, obstruction, and hindering a police investigation. Mr. Bell was taken the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review.
