LA PLATA, Md. (April 29, 2010) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.
DUI SOBRIETY CHECK POINT: On Thursday, April 29, members of the Charles County Sheriff's Office Traffic Operations Unit, with the assistance of patrol officers and the Maryland State Police, will be conducting a DUI check point. The Sheriff's Office is not disclosing the location of the operation and delays to motorists should be minimal.
ATTEMPT BURGLARY: On April 28 at 10:17 a.m., officers responded to the 10300 block of Chamberlin Court West in Waldorf for an attempt break-in. Investigation revealed the homeowner heard the door bell ring several times followed by glass breaking by her front door. The victim ran to the door and observed a male reaching his hand through the window attempting to unlock her door. The victim screamed at the suspect and he fled, getting into a silver or gray car that was parked in her driveway. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene for evidence. The victim described the suspect as a black male with light skin, wearing a white shirt, a black ski mask and black gloves.
The Sheriff's Office is reminding people to report suspicious activity immediately. In this case, the victim provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle, which detectives can now use as a lead. Anyone with information about this case or any other suspicious activity is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (301) 932-7777. Charles County Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspect. Officer Hancock is investigating.
BURGLARY: On April 27 at 7 a.m., officers responded to the 4400 block of Strauss Avenue in Indian Head for the report of a burglary. A preliminary investigation revealed between April 26 at 5 p.m. - April 27 at 6:30 a.m., unknown suspects entered the house through an unsecure rear door and stole various items from the residence. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene for evidence. Officer F. Davis is investigating.
FALSE REPORT OF ARMED ROBBERY: On April 22, officers responded to the 3300 block of Westdale Court in Waldorf for the report of a citizen robbery. The complainant, an 18-year-old male, reported two males robbed him at gun point on a path near Western Parkway and Hamlin Road. Officers noted inconsistencies in the victim's statements and the victim later admitted he made up the robbery because he feared consequences of losing his new cell phone earlier in the day. A criminal summons was issued charging the suspect with false statement to a police officer. Officer C. Walden investigated.
BURGLARY: On April 23 at 2:43 p.m., officers responded to the 11300 block of Golden Eagle Place in Waldorf for the roport of a burglary. Investigation revealed the victim entered the residence through a window that was left open by the homeowner and stole computers, game systems and a camera. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene for evidence. Officer St. Germain is investigating.
