LA PLATA, Md. (April 22, 2010)—The Charles County Sheriffs Office and Red Lobster seafood restaurant in Waldorf have canceled the Cops and Lobsters fundraiser that was to be held April 23 to benefit Special Olympics Maryland. The event will not be rescheduled.
Red Lobster has been a great friend to the Charles County Sheriffs Office and Special Olympics for many years and we appreciate all the money they helped us raise during the previous Cops and Lobsters fundraisers, said Sheriff Rex W. Coffey. Most other Red Lobsters had already stopped participating in this fundraising effort but the Waldorf restaurant continued to help for several more years. We enjoyed participating in this effort and value our continued friendship.
The Sheriffs Office will continue its efforts to raise money for Special Olympics Maryland. The next fundraiser, the Law Enforcement Torch Run which helps carry the flame of hope across Maryland to the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics summer games, will be held June 10. Citizens interested in participating in the Torch Run or in purchasing a Torch Run T-shirt may call Sgt. Chris Schmidt at 301-609-6229.
