LA PLATA, Md. (April 13, 2010)—The North Point High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (AFJROTC) academic team has been invited to participate in the national 2010 Air Force JROTC Academic Bowl championships, scheduled for April 23-26 at Bolling Air Force in Washington, D.C.
The team, one of 16 nationwide eligible to compete at the national level, is composed of juniors Arthur Fortineau (captain) and Patrick Jackman, sophomores Alexis Frye and Mary OGrady, and freshmen Thomas Blandford and Juan Lopez. The team competed in two preliminary online competitions in January against JROTC students to earn a spot in the national championship. The bowl tests students knowledge of standard high school curriculum, including content areas of mathematics, English, science and leadership.
The bowl is sponsored by the College Options Foundation and is a nationally recognized academic competition created exclusively for JROTC students. Through the event, cadets learn about citizenship values, academic achievement and college opportunities.
