PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (April 05, 2010)—On Saturday southern Maryland saw its third serious motorcycle accident since the weather turned warm. This time there were no fatalities.
The single vehicle accident involving two riders occurred at approximately 11:37 p.m. on Bowie Shop Road in the area of Lowery Road in Huntingtown, Calvert County.
The preliminary investigation by police determined that a blue 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Flint Randal Duffey, 43, of Huntingtown, was traveling west bound on Bowie Shop Road approaching Lowery Road. The motorcycle was also occupied by a rear passenger, Tracy Anne Duffey, 39, the driver's wife.
Police say that for reasons undetermined at this time, the motorcycle entered the west bound shoulder of Bowie Shop Road. Duffey steered to the left and applied brakes in order to avoid leaving the roadway. Duffey lost control of his motorcycle and the motorcycle began to skid on its side. Both the operator and the passenger were subsequently ejected. The motorcycle came to a final rest once it collided with the east bound guardrail.
Duffey and his wife sustained various injuries during the collision and were transported to the Prince George's Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police helicopters Trooper 2 and Trooper 7. At this time both the operator and the passenger are listed in stable condition, say police.
Police say blood test results to determine if alcohol was a factor are pending.
