St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (April 05, 2010) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

RETAIL THEFT, ASSAULT: On April 2, Deputy Melissa Green responded to Target in California for a report of a theft. Deputy Green learned Joseph P. Ellis, 30, with no fixed address, and Bradley L. Hall, 32, of Drayden, entered the business, placed merchandise in a cart ( electronic games, gaming systems and automotive supplies) and attempted to exit without paying for the merchandise. Ellis was confronted by store staff at which time Ellis assaulted a store employee and fled the scene with Hall. Sheriff's Units located the suspects leaving the area in a white Ford, stopped the vehicle and arrested both occupants (Ellis and Hall). Joseph Ellis and Bradley Hall were charged with Theft Under $1,000. Ellis was also charged with assaulting the Target employee. Ellis and Hall were released to the custody of the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

DUI, CDS VIOLATION: On April 4, a citizen reported a motorcycle operating in a reckless manner in the area of Maryland Route 235 and Chancellors Run Road. The motorcycle was located by Captain Alioto who initiated a traffic stop on Great Mills Road at Jay Dee Court. The vehicle operator was identified as Gerald H. Jameson, 51, of Great Mills. Jameson was found to have been drinking alcohol and in the possession of suspected Marijuana. Deputy Ryan Kampf arrested Jameson for driving under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle while revoked and possession of Marijuana. He was released to the custody of the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On April 4 at 10 p.m. in the evening, Deputy Charles Dodson was patrolling the Town Creek neighborhood when he observed a vehicle in the parking lot of the elementary school. Deputy Dodson entered onto the school grounds to investigate the vehicle and made contact with two juvenile males. While speaking with the juveniles, Deputy Dodson observed a quantity of suspected Marijuana in plain view within the vehicle. One of the juveniles, a 15-year-old male from California was determined to be in possession of the suspected Marijuana. The juvenile male was arrested, charged with possession of Marijuana and released to the custody of their parent.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT: On April 4, Cpl. John Logalbo responded to a residence in California for a reported assault. Cpl. Logalbo learned that Vernon L. Hughes, 47, of Lexington Park, assaulted his wife causing visible sign of injury. Hughes was arrested, charged with assault and released to the custody of the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
