Two Arrested for Mechanicsville Burglary


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (March 24, 2010) - The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) today released the following information regarding a residential burglary in Mechanicsville and subsequent arrests.

On March 12, the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office received a report of a residential burglary which on Barton Street in Mechanicsville. Detectives from BCI assumed the investigation.

On March 13 and 14, Thomas Andrew Tolson, 23 of Mechanicsville, and Jonathan David Elkins, 22 of Mechanicsville, sold several items of property taken during the burglary to a local jewelry store.

On March 22, Tolson was arrested and charged with first degree burglary and two counts of theft over $1,000. Tolson is currently being held in the St. Mary's County Detention Center on a $35,000 bond.

On March 24, Elkins was arrested and charged with first degree burglary and one count of theft over $1,000. Elkins is currently being held in the St. Mary's County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.

BCI is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown.
