LA PLATA, Md. (March 19, 2010)—The Charles County Sheriffs Office launched a search today for a suspicious person near a school who was possibly involved in an incident yesterday in which a man standing on the side of a Marbury road flashed an inappropriate photograph to passing motorists and the young occupants of a school bus.
On March 18 about 8:50 a.m., Sheriffs officers responded to Pisgah Marbury Road near Route 425 in Marbury after a citizen reported seeing a man flash a magazines centerfold photograph of a nude woman to passersby, including the occupants of the school bus traveling in front of the citizen. Officers responded to the area but the man had already fled the scene. The man was described only as a black male wearing a hooded jacket and holding a graphic magazine.
On March 19, officers initiated a proactive effort to monitor the parking lots of Gail-Bailey Elementary School which the children on yesterdays school bus attend and nearby Henry E. Lackey High School. About 7:20 a.m., officers patrolling Gail-Bailey observed a man walking near the school. He matched the general description of the man with the magazine on Pisgah Marbury Road. When the officers tried to approach the man, he quickly fled. Unsure of the mans connection to yesterdays incident and to protect the school children from a possible threat, the Sheriffs Office launched a search for the man that included the use of K9 teams and a Maryland State Police helicopter. The Sheriffs Office notified the Gail-Bailey and Lackey schools of the search and administrators placed both schools in lockdown status.
Despite the two-hours-long search, the man managed to elude officers. Anyone with information about his identity is asked to contact the Sheriffs Office at 301-743-2222. In addition to matching the general description of the black male wearing a hooded jacket, he is further described as being about 6 feet tall and weighing 165 pounds. It remains unclear whether the man is the same person with the magazine on Pisgah Marbury Road. Anyone with additional information about that incident is also asked to contact the Sheriffs Office.
