LA PLATA, Md. (March 19, 2010)—More than 20 North Point High School students placed in the regional Skills USA competition held last month. They advance to the state level competition, scheduled for March 26-27 in Baltimore.
The Skills USA/VICA regional competition is a showcase event for career and technology students in the tri-county area. The students compete locally and continue through the state and national levels. The philosophy of the competition is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to train students for employer needs.
The students who placed in the regional competition include:

-- Jesse Wood, junior, third place, Carpentry;
-- Justin Bottorf, senior, first place, Collision Repair;
-- Cassius Sendish, senior, second place, Collision Repair;
-- Evan McIntyre, senior, third place, Collision Repair;
-- Davia Low, senior, first place, Cosmetology;
-- LaBria Jones, senior, second place, Cosmetology;
-- Jasmyne Smith, senior, third place, Cosmetology;
-- Chris Chambelee, senior, first place, Criminal Justice;
-- Matthew Lorman, senior, first place, Culinary Arts;
-- Javonte Hawkins, senior, second place, Culinary Arts;
-- William Tomlinson, senior, third place, Culinary Arts;
-- Alina Zayas, junior, first place, Pre-School Teaching Assistant;

Students who earn first place at the state level are eligible to compete in the Skills USA National Championships scheduled for June 20-25 in Kansas City.
North Point is a comprehensive high school, located in Waldorf, that offers science, technology and industry courses in addition to the core curriculum for students.
