Women volunteers to build home sponsored by $55,000 grant from Lowes; Kick-off Breakfast meeting set for March 24
SOLOMONS, Md. (March 18, 2010)—As part of Habitat for Humanitys Women Build program, Patuxent Habitat for Humanity and a crew of women volunteers and sponsors will break ground soon on a home in either Calvert or St. Marys County for a local family.
The Women Build program, underwritten by Lowes, recruits, educates and nurtures women to build and advocate for simple, decent and affordable houses in their communities. Patuxent Habitat for Humanity received a $55,000 grant from Lowes to build the house.
We are very excited about having women in our community work side by side with our partner family, said Jon Grimm executive director of Patuxent Habitat for Humanity. Their hard work will help make the dream of homeownership a reality for a deserving family. We are very grateful to Lowes for their grant of $55,000 to build our next home.
This home will add to the nearly 1,700 Habitat for Humanity Women Build houses built throughout the United States and in dozens of other countries.
We are excited about partnering with the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate on this project, said John Pagliero, manager, Lowes of St. Marys County. This will be our stores first Women Build project and our employees and suppliers are eager to build this home in concert with women in our community and the members of the family. Building homes is our mission, so this project is one we believe in. Habitat for Humanity has such a wonderful global reputation and we at Lowes are glad we are bringing this concept to our local level. We opened this store in 2000 and this will be a capstone project in our ongoing community relations efforts as we continue to be an integral part of the neighborhood!
A kick off breakfast will be held on Wed, March 24 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Patuxent Presbyterian Church in California. Intended to bring together Calvert and St. Marys County Women Leaders to frame the future, all are invited to attend to learn more about the project.
