LA PLATA, Md. (March 16, 2010) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

POLICE RESOLVE BARRICADE: On March 14 at 9:21 p.m., officers responded to the 10000 block of Housley Court in Waldorf for the report of an armed male threatening to commit suicide. Officers attempted to make contact with the man but he refused to communicate. The Charles County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services Team and hostage negotiators responded and subsequently apprehended the man inside his house. Officers found a semi-automatic handgun in his possession.

OFFICERS RESPONDING TO BURGLAR ALARM FIND SUSPECTS INSIDE BUSINESS: On March 13 at 11:59 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to KinderCare at 2011 Smallwood Drive West in Waldorf for an intrusion alarm. While checking the building, officers discovered an open door to the rear of the business and observed two suspects inside. One suspect was apprehended on the scene and the other suspect fled. Officers charged James Thomas Neal, 18, of Waldorf with burglary. Officer B. Virts made the arrest. The investigation is continuing.

OFFICERS CHARGE SUSPECTS WITH THEFT AND UNAUTHORIZED USE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE: On March 11 at 12:20 p.m., officers responded to Simpson's Store at 8350 Oliver Shop Road in La Plata for the report of a theft in progress. A preliminary investigation revealed two males entered the store and asked to cash a check. During the transaction, one of the males reached behind the counter, grabbed a cash bag and fled to a car parked outside. The other male remained on the scene. Officers identified the suspect, a 17-year-old male, and charged him with theft.

OFFICERS DISRUPT BURGLARY IN PROGRESS AND RECOVER STOLEN ATV: On March 12 at 12:50 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's Officer M. VanHorn was on routine patrol near Port Tobacco Road and Valley Road in La Plata when he observed an ATV and motorcycle pass him. The officer realized the vehicles had probably just been stolen and he made a u-turn to stop them. The suspects realized they had been spotted and fled. As the officer canvassed the area, he observed the ATV had crashed into a fence near a corn field. The officer recovered the ATV and a chainsaw that had been stolen. The driver of the motorcycle escaped. The ATV and chainsaw were returned to their owners. The investigation is continuing.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE: Between March 11 at 10 p.m. and March 12 at 6 a.m., unknown suspects entered an unlocked garage in the 2900 block of Hunt Court in Waldorf and stole electronics and other valuables from a car parked inside. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene for evidence. Officer O'Sheilds is investigating.
