Avenueite Says He Was Shot, Police Say Self-Inflicted


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (, 2010) - The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) today released the following incident report. BCI is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown.

FALSE REPORT, SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND: On March 6 at 11:35 p.m., patrol units responded for the report of a shooting on Oakley Rd. in Avenue. Upon arrival deputies discovered the victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the arm. The victim advised he was retrieving mail from a mailbox when a vehicle passed by and an unknown occupant of the vehicle had shot him. Detectives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigations responded and assumed the investigation. As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to determine the victims injuries were a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and no other persons were involved. The victim was transported to St. Mary's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is continuing.
