Charles Business Students Compete in Regional Leadership Conference


LA PLATA, Md. (March 05, 2010)—Business students from Maurice J. McDonough and North Point high schools in Charles County recently competed in the regional Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) leadership conference held Feb. 10.

The competition consists of web-based examinations in areas such as personal finance, management decision making, accounting, business law and desktop publishing. Students can also participate in face-to-face interviews with FBLA judges as part of the event.

The following students placed in the regional event and will advance to the state leadership conference scheduled for March 25-27 in Hunt Valley, Md.

North Point:

-- Charmaine Bynum, senior, first place, accounting II; and
-- Haneet Goraya, senior, second place, business law.

McDonough:

-- Clarevonte Williams, senior, first place, sports management;
-- Hunter Scofield, senior, second place, job interview;
-- Jasmine Brown, junior, second place, personal finance;
-- Tashon Brown, senior, second place, marketing;
-- Aureliz Gonzalez and Rana Riddick, both seniors, second place, management decision making; and
-- Cameryn Williams, senior, third place, computer applications.

FBLA gives students opportunities to learn about the business community. Projects include professional, civic, service, financial and social awareness activities. FBLA sponsors an annual national leadership conference each year, which begins with competition at the local, regional, and state levels.
