LEONARDTOWN, Md. (March 05, 2010) - The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) recently released the following incident and arrest reports. BCI is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown.
ARREST IN VIRGINIA OF WANTED SUSPECT: On March 3, Detective Cpl. Robert Merritt developed information regarding a possible location of Raymond Stanley Morgan III (pictured left) who was wanted by police in Virginia, the Maryland State Police, and the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office on several felony warrants (attempted murder, domestic assault, abduction, and larceny). Cpl. Merritt obtained a specific residence Morgan was believed to be staying in Middlesex County, Virginia and contacted the U.S. Marshall's Service Warrant Unit in Virginia. Through combined efforts of Cpl. Merritt, the U.S. Marshall's Service and local police in Virginia, Morgan was apprehended as he attempted to flee the residence on foot. Morgan was subsequently charged with Attempted Murder and Kidnapping by local police in Virginia.
FAILURE TO REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER: On March 1, detectives from the BCI Sex Offender Unit apprehended Alfonso Gasnarez, age 28, of California, Maryland. Gasnarez is required to register as a sex offender with the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and failed to do so. Gasnarez was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center, charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, and incarcerated pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Gasnarez was convicted of Second Degree Rape of a fourteen-year-old victim in 2005.
CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE: On March 4, detectives from the BCI Special Victim's Unit and the Department of Child Protective Services conducted a joint investigation into the alleged abuse of a twelve-year-old female by a thirty-year-old male in Compton. The investigation revealed the defendant, Dale Stephen Herbert, Jr., of Mechanicsville, committed a sex offense upon the victim on or about 12/20/2009. Herbert was apprehended and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged with one count of Child Sexual Abuse, one count of Third Degree Sex Offense and one count of Fourth Degree Sex Offense. He is currently incarcerated pending an appearance by the District Court Commissioner.
SEEKING SUSPECT IN BANK ROBBERY: On February 5, two subjects entered the Community Bank of Tri County in Charlotte Hall, Md. and robbed the bank at gunpoint. At left is a composite drawing of one of the suspects involved
