LA PLATA, Md. (Jan. 19, 2010)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office released the following information regarding an alleged threat of student violence at Thomas Stone High School in Waldorf on Friday.
"On Friday, January 15 at 4 p.m., the Charles County Sheriff's Office was made aware that a 15-year-old student at Thomas Stone High School, located at 3785 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf, had a list containing the names of
twelve students and a teacher whom he wanted to harm. The information was reported to the Charles County Sheriff's Office, School Resource Unit, who, along with school staff, took swift, immediate action. The student was located, evidence was secured and contact was made with the teen's parents - who are cooperating fully. Further investigation revealed the student was contemplating suicide. The teen was taken into custody and admitted to a hospital where he is currently under a doctor's care.
"The Charles County Sheriff's Office is committed to providing a safe environment at all schools. Threats are taken seriously and are investigated to the fullest extent. At this point, there is no evidence suggesting anyone else was involved and it appears the student was acting alone."
