GREENBELT, Md. (May 18, 2009) - U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow sentenced Joseph Alosius Maddox, Jr., a/k/a Junior Maddox, age 43, of Great Mills, Maryland, to 10 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine, announced United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein
According to his plea, from 2007 through September 2008, Maddox Jr. obtained cocaine and crack cocaine from Tyron Butler and others. Maddox Jr., Butler, Larray Maddox, James Shade, and others converted the cocaine into crack cocaine and then sold it to customers at locations in St. Marys County, including Maddox Jr.s home in the 22000 block of Hawthorne Way in Great Mills, St. Marys County, Maryland. On five occasions from March 21 through May 23, 2008, Maddox, Jr. sold crack cocaine to a confidential source at locations in St. Marys County and each of these transactions was monitored by law enforcement agents.
Law enforcement agents searched Maddox Jr.s residence on September 11, 2008, and recovered a microwave oven containing cocaine base residue and $3,997. Maddox Jr. was arrested at his home.
Maddox Jr. admitted that based upon the length of the drug trafficking conspiracy, recorded telephone conversations and information provided by other individuals, he is responsible for the distribution of more than 50 grams but less than 150 grams of crack cocaine.
Butler, Laray Maddox and James Shade have pleaded guilty to their participation in the conspiracy and are awaiting sentencing.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein thanked the Drug Enforcement Administration and St. Marys County Sheriff Tim Cameron and his office for their investigative work in this Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force case. Mr. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorneys James A. Crowell IV and Barbara Skalla, who prosecuted the case.
