GREAT MILLS (May 16, 2009)—Congratulations to Adam Sickle and Julian Thornton, who each won a $500 college scholarship courtesy of Southern Maryland Online and Business, Education and Community Alliance (BECA).
An awards ceremony was held Thursday at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career &
Technology Center in Leonardtown.
Thornton, a Great Mills High School graduate, will be attending Hampton University in Virginia. He is a well-rounded scholar athlete, consistently making the Honor Roll while participating in Varsity football and track. His interest is in clothing and accessory design, with a goal of establishing his own business in that field to honor his mother.
Sickle is a graduate of Leonardtown High School and will be heading off to University of Maryland-College Park in the fall. He was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society and helps run his family business, Farm Valley Nursery, in addition to operating his own produce stand. Sickle is interested in broadcast journalism and helped produce
the promo video for the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center.
We at Southern Maryland Online wish these two impressive young men the best in their future, with every confidence that they will accomplish their dreams.
