Seven Charles County Public Schools Receive Literacy Grants

LA PLATA, Md. (May 5, 2009)—Seven Charles County public schools recently received $3,000 grants from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation program.

Gale-Bailey, Indian Head, J.C. Parks and Mt. Hope/Nanejmoy elementary schools, General Smallwood and Matthew Henson middle schools, and Henry E. Lackey High School received checks for the funds at a presentation ceremony held Tuesday, April 28, at the Bryans Road Dollar General.

The program is funded directly through store donations and the Bryans Road store collected more than $30,000 in 2008. These Charles County public schools were chosen as grant recipients because they are located in the Bryans Road and Indian Head areas.

The grants will support literacy and education initiatives and recognize the Bryans Road store's support of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The store ranks as the Foundation's top fundraiser in 2008 through in-store donations.
