Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (May 5, 2009) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

SHOOTING: On May 4 at 4:20 p.m., officers responded to the 2200 block of Bonnie Lane in Waldorf for the report of a shooting. Investigation revealed the victim, a 13-year-old male, was standing outside of his house with two family members when an SUV drove past his house. One of the occupants fired a gun several times toward the group, striking the victim in the upper part of his right leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for a non life-threatening injury. The suspects fled in a white, two-toned SUV with a tan or brown lower half, possibly an Isuzu or Nissan.

Detectives are in the process of establishing a motive and are looking into the possibility that someone other than the victim was the intended target. A cash reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for the tip that leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspect(s).

ROBBERY: On May 4 at 8:18 p.m., officers responded to Acton Liquors at 11870 Acton Lane in Waldorf for the report of a robbery. Investigation revealed the suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The clerk complied and the suspect fled. The suspect is described as a light skinned, black male wearing a black jacket, a black face mask and blue jeans. The area was searched and the scene was processed for evidence. Detective J. McKenzie is investigating.

SUSPECT CHARGED WITH FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT: On May 3, Charles County Sheriff's officers arrested Clifton Goldring, 23, of Waldorf, in connection with a stabbing that occurred on April 27 in the 12000 block of Ell Lane. The stabbing was the result of an argument between two groups of acquaintances. Goldring was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree assault and remanded to the Charles County Detention Center. Investigators have obtained an arrest warrant for a second suspect, Charles McDaniel Brooks, 23, of Brandywine; however, he has not been located. Detective S. Fetterolf is investigating.

BURGLARY: On May 3 between 1:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m., unknown suspects broke into Dominoes Pizza located at 2256 Crain Highway in Waldorf and stole a small amount of money. Officer L. Sershen is investigating.

MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT ON A POLICE OFFICER: On May 1 at 1:07 a.m., Anthony A. Stokes, 21, of Upper Marlboro, was arguing with a patron at TGI Fridays at 2990 Waldorf Marketplace in Waldorf. A Charles County Sheriff's officer ordered Stokes to leave the restaurant but he refused and continued yelling profanities. The officer went to place Stokes under arrest but he pushed the officer and started to run. Stokes was apprehended and charged with assault on a police officer. Sergeant J. Powell made the arrest.
