Motorcyclist Dies in Calvert Crash


PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (April 27, 2009)—A Riverdale man died Saturday in Calvert County after he lost control of his motorcycle and was subsequently struck by a second oncoming motorcycle. Daniel James Reed, age 54, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two people who were riding the second motorcycle were sent to area hospitals with non-incapacitating injuries.

The accident occurred around 11:16 a.m. as Reed was driving a 2001 Harley Road King motorcycle southbound on Md. Rt. 261 in the area of Breezy Point Road. Police determined that two vehicles were stopped in the roadway, waiting to turn left onto Breezy Point Road. Reed lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected into northbound traffic. He was struck by a 2005 Harley Road King motorcycle driven by Brian Keith McCutcheon, 44 of Owings. McCutcheon and a passenger, Karen L. McCutcheon, 45 of Owings, were both ejected from their motorcycle.

Brian McCutcheon was transported by MSP Trooper 7 to P.G. Shock Trauma with non-incapacitating injuries. Karen McCutcheon was transported via ambulance to Calvert Memorial Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Calvert County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Team.
