St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (April 21, 2009) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER: On April 21, 2009 at 1:09 a.m., Deputy S. Ruest and Deputy H. Adams responded to a residence in Mechanicsville for the report of a disturbance. Contact was made with Francis W. Bridgett, age 45, of Mechanicsville who was extremely intoxicated and acting in a disorderly manner. As Bridgett retreated to a back bedroom of the residence he struck Deputy Ruest in the stomach. A short struggle ensued and Bridgett was taken into custody, charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest and incarcerated in the Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER: On April 20, 2009 at 3:37 p.m., Deputy R. Neilson responded to a residence in Charlotte Hall for the report of a protective order violation. Contact was made with the victim who advised David C. Frost, Sr., age 48, of Mechanicsville had sent her text messages in violation of a protective order issued by a District Court judge. Frost was located, placed under arrest without incident, charged with Violation of a Protective Order, and incarcerated in the Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

THEFT UNDER $500: On April 20, 2009 at 5:04 p.m., Deputy J. Vezzosi responded to the CVS in Leonardtown for the reported shoplifting complaint. Investigation revealed Sherri L. Newby, age 32, of Avenue, obtained various merchandise from the store valued at $163.24 and placed the items in a shopping cart. Newby then exited the store and began placing the items into her vehicle. Newby was confronted by a store employee in the parking lot at which time Newby stated she wished to return and pay for the items. Newby was issued a Criminal Citation charging her with Theft under $500 and released pending a preliminary hearing in District Court.
