St. Mary's County BCI Police Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (April 20, 2009) - The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) today released the following incident and arrest reports. BCI is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown.

WIFE STABBING: Francis Matthew Carter, 44, of Lexington Park, arrived at St. Mary's Hospital at approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday, April 19, with his 47 year-old wife, Deloris Kathleen Carter, who was suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Deputies and BCI detectives responded and determined that during a dispute at their home, Carter stabbed his wife. He was taken into custody and charged by detectives with First Degree Assault. He is incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center. The victim was flown to Washington Hospital Center, where she is listed in critical condition. Additional charges are pending a review with the States Attorney's Office.

HOME INVASION: At approximately 10:30 a.m. on April 17, three black males forced their way into a residence off of Route 243 in Leonardtown by kicking in the front door. Once inside one suspect struck the 47 year-old female occupant several times and bound her. The intruders ransacked the residence causing extensive damage and eventually fled. The victim was able to go to a neighbor's home where police were summoned. Sheriff's deputies, BCI detectives, and Calvert County Sheriff's K-9 responded. Lexington Park Rescue Squad treated the victim at the scene for a head injury. MULTIPLE STABBINGS: On April 17 at approximately 2:30 a.m., two males, aged 19 and 20, were walking in Suburban Trailer Park in Lexington Park when an unknown person approached them from behind and repeatedly stabbed them. Both victims were able to flee the attacker and were transported to St. Mary's Hospital by personal vehicles. The 20 year-old received wounds to his back, arm and neck. The 19 year-old received wounds to his arm and side. He was later transported to Washington Hospital Center. BCI detectives are continuing the investigation into the incident.

ARREST FOR BURGLARY: On April 17, BCI detectives arrested Christopher Bryan Cox, 24, of Leonardtown, at his home. He was charged with First Degree Burglary and Theft Over $500 for a November 25, 2007 daytime residential burglary, which occurred on Bishop Road in Mechanicsville. He was incarcerated at the St. Mary's County Detention Center.
