St. Mary's Students Honored for Artwork


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (April 10, 2009)—St. Mary's County Public Schools held a special reception and artwork display on Monday, March 23, at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center to honor approximately 150 middle and high school students from St. Mary's County who participated in the 2009 GFWC Women's Club of St. Mary's County Youth Art Contest. There were 152 entries from the eight public secondary schools and 50 entries from the six participating nonpublic schools.

The following winners and honorable mentions will be entered in the district level of competition, with the potential of moving to the state and national levels.

Class 1 (Middle School)

-- Jenna Henderson, Leonardtown Middle School - 1st place
-- Jonathan Wyne, Margaret Brent Middle School - 2nd place
-- Lauren Burnette, Leonardtown Middle School - 3rd place

Class 2 (High School)

-- Amanda Kemp, Leonardtown High School, 1st place
-- Rebecca Whitley, Leonardtown High School, 2nd place
-- Stacie Valley, Great Mills High School, 3rd place
