Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (April 2, 2009) - The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

CARJACKING: On April 1 at 11:44 p.m., officers responded to the parking lot of Shoppers World in the 3200 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of a carjacking. Investigation revealed the victim was entering his vehicle when a man approached, displayed a handgun and demanded his money and car keys. A second suspect stood nearby. The victim complied and both suspects got in his car and fled north. The suspects are described as black males in their twenties-thirties. One suspect is about 5'4", 140 lbs., light complexion, wearing a black baseball cap, white sneakers, and blue jeans. The other suspect is about 5'9", 220 lbs., wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black bandanna that covered the mouth portion of his face, dark colored pants, and white tennis shoes. The victim's vehicle is a gold-colored 2006, Chevrolet Cobalt, four-door, with Maryland registration plates. The car is missing a front driver-side hubcap and there is a sticker on the rear window that says "Union." Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Charles County Sheriff's Office at (301) 932-2222. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS. Charles County Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspects.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR OPEN WARRANT: On April 1 at 3:28 a.m., officers initiated a traffic stop in the 7000 block of Poorhouse Road in Pisgah after observing a traffic violation. A check revealed one of the car's occupants, Heather Anjel Rogers, 31, of Upper Marlboro, had an open warrant issued from New Jersey. Rogers was arrested and transported to the Charles County Detention Center where she was charged as a fugitive from justice. Officer B. Virts made the arrest.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE LEADS TO DRUG ARREST: On March 31 at 1:05 a.m., a Charles County Sheriff's officer was patrolling a neighborhood when he observed a vehicle parked in the middle of Creedon Drive in Bryans Road with its headlights off. As the officer approached the car, he smelled the odor of marijuana. A check revealed several baggies of marijuana inside the car. The driver, Steven Shields, II, 19, of La Plata, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers R. Boggs and J. Garner made the arrest.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO ARREST OF FUGITIVE: On March 30 at 5:20 p.m., a Charles County Sheriff's officer initiated a traffic stop near Gallant Green Road and Bassford Road after observing a traffic violation - the tags displayed on the vehicle were not issued to that car. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and fled for approximately one mile. As the driver attempted to make a turn, he lost control of the car and struck an embankment. He was apprehended without further incident. A computer check revealed the driver, David Brain Makle, 43, of Brandywine, had two open warrants. In addition, marijuana was found inside his car. He was charged with fleeing and eluding and possession of drugs. Officer J. Walter made the arrest.

MAN CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF HANDGUN: On March 26 at 2:15 a.m., officers were advised of a subject carrying a handgun in the parking lot of Club Icon located at 2106 Crain Highway in Waldorf. Officers located the man, Jerice Marquis Boston, 24, of Texas, inside a truck and recovered a handgun. Boston was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun. Officer D. Brady made the arrest.
