Statewide Winner to be Announced at Award Ceremony on May 8
BALTIMORE (March 30, 2009) - State Superintendent of Schools Nancy S. Grasmick and Comcast recently announced the 24 semifinalists for the statewide 2009 Comcast Parent Involvement Matters Awards. A nominee was named for each Maryland
county.
James Carroll, with a child attending Calvert Middle School, Calvert County; Kristina Gozzi, with a child attending J.P. Ryon Elementary School, Charles County; and Maria Scott, with a child attending Park Hall Elementary School, Saint Mary's County; were the nominees for So. Maryland.
A collaboration between Comcast and the Maryland State Department of Education, the Comcast Parent Involvement Matters Awards is the nation's first statewide initiative of its kind, recognizing parents and legal guardians for their exceptional support of public education. Parents are nominated for demonstrating significant, positive impact in their communities in five areas of parental involvement: Communication, Volunteering, Learning, Decision Making, and Community Collaboration.
The 2009 Comcast Parent Involvement Matters Awards will be presented in a special celebration on May 8th. Five finalists and a statewide winner, selected from the 24 semifinalists named today, will be announced at the award ceremony.
The statewide winner and five finalists will be awarded a cash prize to further their efforts to improve the public schools they represent.
