Clarke will read from her books including her latest release, Black Out: Animals that Live in the Dark. She will explain the research involved in writing these nonfiction books about unusual animals. Clarke has sold more than a million of her books worldwide and has received various awards. Her book Platypus was awarded the 2005 MD Library Association Blue Crab Young Reader Award. Her books will be available for sale and for book signing following each program.

"Meeting the author of a book makes the book and reading come alive for the young reader. BooksAlive! brings the excitement of good children's books and reading to all ages," Director Kathleen Reif states. "Sharing books with children should be celebrated everyday by reading to the young children in your life and bringing them in to the library to get their first library card and to check out books."
