5,000 Gal. Raw Wastewater Overflows at Barrington Drive

LA PLATA, MD. (March 24, 2009)—A sewer line break on Friday, March 20, at Barrington Drive in Waldorf resulted in approximately 5,000 gallons of raw sewage being discharged into an unnamed tributary near Post Office Pond.

According to the Charles County Department of Utilities, the overflow occurred due to a sewer line break that was caused by a backup of grease in the line.

The overflow was reported at approximately 7 a.m. and was contained by 8:45 a.m.

The Department reported that 3,500-4,000 gallons were pumped and that samples were taken by the Department at the direction of the Charles County Health Department for testing. There are no plans at this time for repeat sampling and signs will be posted near the ditch area.
