Second Driver of Leonardtown Fatal Accident Was On-Duty Police


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (March 5, 2009)—The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office just released additional information about this morning's fatal accident at the SMECO entrance in Leonardtown.

The driver of the 2004 Toyota truck who was killed in the collision was a 60 year-old female from Callaway. Police have still not released her name. Police identified the child passenger of the truck only as a 3 year-old male from Leonardtown. The child was initially transported to St. Mary's Hospital but has subsequently been flown to Children's Hospital in Washington, DC.

The operator of the Chevrolet SUV who was traveling westbound on Hollywood Road was identified only as 35 year-old male from Lexington Park and a "seven year veteran of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office who was on duty at the time of the collision."

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact Corporal Doug Mills at 301-475-4200 extension 1984.
