Maryland's Recovery: Accountable and Transparent

By Martin O'Malley, Governor

Last week, we launched a new section of our StateStat website designed to track every dollar spent from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act – recovery.maryland.gov. Every resurfaced road, every repaired bridge, every local school system that will benefit from these funds will be tracked on an interactive map, so citizens can see in real time how these federal recovery dollars are working in their communities.

The interactive maps allow Marylanders to search any community in the State, see actual projects that are already underway and actual dollars invested anywhere in Maryland. As these funds continue to be made available, we will distribute them to the appropriate programs, and recovery.maryland.gov will add new functions and new interactive capabilities – so every dollar is accounted for, and every project is transparent.

As President Obama said, “We don't do ourselves any favors by hiding what we spend.” Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing more detailed information about specific projects and jobs that these funds will help save or create. In the meantime, I encourage everyone to visit the website and see exactly how those funds that have already been allocated are impacting the community where you live or work.
