PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (Feb. 23, 2009)—The Calvert County Board of Education has rescheduled its budget hearing to Thursday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the Calvert High School auditorium in Prince Frederick.
Last Friday, Governor Martin O'Malley announced that a portion of the money allocated to Maryland through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan will be given to local school systems. Jack Smith, Superintendent, requested the schedule change so he and school system staff have more time to incorporate those additional funds into his proposed budget.
Smith will present more specific information to the Board of Education and the community during the Board's regular meeting on Thursday, February 26 at 10 a.m.
"While this additional money helps, it does not solve our budget problems," Smith said. "We still have a significant shortfall and must propose painful cuts."
