The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown, Maryland.

ID FRAUD BY MVA EMPLOYEE: On February 17 BCI detectives served a criminal summons on Felix Alexander Pinto Jr., 21, of California, Md. charging him with four counts of false entry into public record. The charges were a result of an investigation into Pinto providing driver's licenses and identification cards to persons that did not qualify, due to not having required U.S. documents. This occurred while he was employed with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) in their Loveville office between May and July of 2008.

SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT DEATH: On February 17 at approximately 3:10 p.m., police responded to the corner of Great Mills Road and Saratoga Drive in Lexington Park for a report of a man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. BCI detectives determined the wound was self-inflicted. The 53 year-old Lexington Park man was pronounced dead on the scene.
