PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (Feb 13, 2009)—A fourteen-year-old Sunderland boy was struck by a car Wednesday around 4:43 p.m. as he was crossing Md. Rt. 2 at Dalrymple Road in Sunderland. The boy was struck by a 1996 Chevy truck traveling south on Md. Rt. 2 driven by Gloria Tereshinski, 45, of Owings, according to police. The boy was flown by MSP Trooper 2 to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. for treatment of possible leg and head injuries.
Police determined that Tereshinski passed a tractor trailer that was stopped in the roadway to allow a pedestrian to cross. Tereshinski crossed the double yellow line on the left, bypassing the tractor trailer in order to enter the left-turn lane to make a left onto Dalrymple Road. The boy was crossing the road on foot and had just passed in front of the tractor trailer when he was struck by Tereshinski's vehicle, say police.
Tereshinski remained on the scene and offered assistance. She was cited for improper overtaking of a motor vehicle and failing to use due caution to avoid a collision with a pedestrian.
