Waldorf Juvenile Charged in Fire


WALDORF, Md. (Feb. 10, 2009) – Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged a 15 year-old male with intentionally setting fire to a mailbox and basketball hoop at a single family dwelling. Investigators determined that the juvenile poured gasoline on the mailbox and the base of a basketball hoop and used a lighter and matches to ignite them.

The fire at the 2519 Brigham Court, Waldorf, occurred Sunday, February 8, 2008 outside the Humbar residence. The one alarm fire caused an estimated $250.00 dollars in total damage The juvenile admitted to setting the fires because he did not like one of the Humbar’s children.

Deputy State Fire Marshals served the juvenile with the charges this afternoon without incident at a public place with the juvenile’s father present. The juvenile is charged with 2nd degree malicious burning and malicious destruction of property under $500.00 dollars. If convicted of these charges the juvenile could face penalties not to exceed over 2 years imprisonment and/ or $1,000.00 dollars in fines. The juvenile was released to his father and is awaiting a juvenile hearing.
