LA PLATA, Md. (Feb. 10, 2009)—An adult male died from a gunshot wound in La Plata early this morning. Detectives believe the victim was targeted for murder, but the motive remains under investigation. Police are not releasing the victim's name until the next of kin have been notified.
On Tuesday at 4:26 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to an apartment in the 6300 block of Fennel Place in La Plata for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered the man, who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.
Police determined the victim and five other adults were playing video games
in the victim's apartment when a group of male suspects forced entry into the
residence. The suspects were armed with firearms, forced everyone to lie on the
ground and demanded money, say police. One of the suspects shot the victim and
the suspects all fled the scene. None of the witnesses were injured.
The suspects were described as black males wearing dark clothing. Their faces were partially covered by masks. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle but no further description of it is available.
