St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Feb. 10, 2009) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

TRESPASSING, INDECENT EXPOSURE: On February 9, 2009 at 10:12 p.m. Deputy S. Ruest responded to the Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad for the report of a subject trespassing on the premises. Steven W. Carter, 50, of no fixed address, was observed urinating on the side of the rescue squad building by a member of the rescue squad. Carter had been issued a "Notice not to Trespass" on the property in October 2008. Carter was located on the property and placed under arrest, charged with trespassing and indecent exposure, and incarcerated in the detention center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER: On February 10, 2009 at 12:42 a.m. deputies responded to a residence on Preference Way in Valley Lee for a domestic dispute. Prior to arriving deputies learned the male subject at the residence was wanted on two outstanding warrants through Charles County for telephone misuse and violation of a peace order. As deputies approached the subject, Martin R. Abell, Jr., 32, Abell initiated a fighting stance and approached the deputies. During the arrest of Mr. Abell, Brandy N. Pilkerton, 27, of Bryantown, intervened in the arrest. Both subjects were subdued and arrested. Pilkerton was charged with hindering police officers and resisting arrest. Abell was charged with assault 2nd degree, resisting arrest and served the two warrants from Charles County. Pilkerton and Abell were incarcerated in the detention center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

ASSAULT: On February 10, 2009 at approximately 3:00 a.m., deputies responded to a disturbance call at a residence on Bishop Lane in Mechanicsville. Preliminary investigation reveals a 15 year-old female reported being assaulted by a 47 year-old male suspect. While the 15 year-old was fleeing the residence the suspect fired several shots into the air outside of the residence. The suspect was located and taken to the hospital for unrelated medical treatment. He remains hospitalized. The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded and assumed the investigation. The suspect's name is not being released at this time because he has not been formally charged. Investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
