St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Feb. 6, 2009) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ASSAULT, ILLEGAL DRUGS: On February 5, 2009 deputies responded to Army Navy Dr. in Mechanicsville for a reported disturbance. Upon arriving contact was made with the victim who said John Andrew Swieczkowski III, 22, of Mechanicsville, lunged at him with a knife during a verbal dispute. Contact was made with Swieczkowski who granted consent for the deputies to search for the knife in his room. Once inside the room, Cpl. Milam observed a homemade marijuana bong, a clear plastic baggie containing marijuana residue/seeds, and a small envelope with marijuana seeds inside laying in plain view. The knife was not located. Further investigation led the officer to believe that Mr. Swieczkowski did lunge at the victim during an argument. Swieczkowski was placed under arrest and charged with second degree assault and possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia.

THEFT UNDER $100: On February 5, 2009 Corporal David Corcoran responded to the Wal-Mart in California for a report of a theft. Investigation revealed Wal-Mart's loss prevention officer witnessed Cara Ann Simms, 18, of Chesapeake Beach, place several items into a diaper bag and attempt to exit the store without paying for the items. Ms. Simms was arrested and charged with theft under $100.00.
