LA PLATA, Md. (FEb. 5, 2009)—The Charles County Commissioners say that due to the overwhelming success of last year's event, Charles County Government Day will be returning for its second year. This year's theme is Greening Our Future, and the event will be held on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Charles County Government Building, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata. A rain date of Saturday, May 16, has also been established in case of inclement weather. This event is free to the public.
This year's celebration will feature information booths and activities that were present last year. The event is also being expanded to feature more hands-on activities and learning opportunities for people of all age groups. There will also be an expanded food court and a classic car show.
Charles County Government Day corresponds with the National Association of Counties' (NACo) County Government Week that is held each year across the United States. Its purpose is to celebrate the contributions, both large and small, that County governments make to their communities.
