Hollywood Boy Shot in Chest During Target Practice


HOLLYWOOD, Md. (Feb. 1, 2009)—A 13 year-old boy was shot in the chest Saturday afternoon with a .22 caliber long rifle round. The boy was accidentally shot by a 12 year-old while target shooting in the backyard of the residence, according to investigators.

Officers from the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack and St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office were called to 25275 Sotterley Road in Hollywood around 2:43 p.m. to investigate the accidental shooting.

Emergency Medical personnel from the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad treated the youth. The boy was subsequently transported by MSP helicopter Trooper 7 to Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C. for his injuries and is listed in stable condition.

Child Protective Services was notified of the incident.

Detectives from the St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
